The future is bright for Southeast Missouri State basketball on both the men’s and women’s side. This week, a pair of Redhawks brought home both adidas® OVC Freshman of the Week awards. Guard Tesia Thompson won the award for the women, while Ledarrius Brewer was a unanimous selection for the men.

It’s only the second time ever that Southeast has swept both the men’s and women’s OVC Freshman of the Week award in the same week – the last and only other time was 1992.

He’s only a sophomore, but Redhawk Denzel Mahoney has reached a major milestone last week, when he joined the SEMO Basketball 1,000 Point Club. A native of Oviedo, Florida, Mahoney surpassed the thousand-point mark last Thursday in a victory at Morehead State. In less than two seasons, he already ranks 21st in career points scored in SEMO Basketball history.

Mahoney was recognized prior to tip-off in last night’s home game against Eastern Illinois, when he was presented a commemorative game ball in celebration of the 1,000 point milestone.

After making the Ohio Valley Conference Championship for the first time in a decade, the Southeast Missouri women’s tennis team is optimistic and eager for the arrival of the 2018 season.

Head coach Mary Beth Gunn enters her third season with the Redhawks after leading a huge turnaround in her second year. Southeast posted a 13-7 overall record in 2017 with a 5-4 mark in the OVC after going 1-19 and 0-10 in league play the previous season. The Redhawks advanced to the OVC Tournament for the first time in 10 seasons.
