Here at Southeast Missouri State, the Department of Athletics awards scholarships in some amount to 284 student-athletes this year. Many of whom would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend Southeast without an athletic scholarship.
While the textbook rental program helps keep books affordable for all Southeast students, textbooks are still a big expense for Redhawk Athletics. The Department of Athletics pays back to the University more than $25,000 each year for textbook rental alone for its scholarship student-athletes. As the 2017 calendar year draws to a close, the Redhawks Club, in conjunction with the Department of Athletics, are asking for support from fans and alumni to help provide textbooks through the Bucks4Books campaign.
The Bucks4Books program helps Southeast scholarship student-athletes have one less concern while balancing schoolwork, competition, and practice. Every dollar raised during the Bucks4Books campaign, now through the end of December, underwrites the cost of textbooks for these student-athletes during the spring 2018 semester.
The Redhawks Club goal is to sponsor textbooks for 100 scholarship student-athletes for the Spring semester. A donation of $130 will sponsor textbook rental for the entire semester for a student-athlete, or as little as $26 covers the cost of a textbook for one course. It’s a small gift that can make a big impact for student-athletes and Redhawk Athletics.
Through the first five days of the campaign, nearly $4800 has been raised already – enough to sponsor textbooks for approximately 37 student-athletes in the Spring semester. Individuals who want to support can text ‘SEMO’ to 56512 or visit https://impact.semo.edu/campaigns/bucks4books/.
