Charges Filed In Connection To Thursday Night Double Homicide

Cape Girardeau Police Department

The Cape Girardeau Police Department has released the names of two individuals who were killed in their apartment Thursday night, as well as their suspected killer.

The Cape Girardeau prosecuting attorney’s office has filed two first degree murder charges against Kenneth D. Bell for the allegedly murdered of Shannon Dewayne and Misty Dawn Cole.

Bell lived in the same apartment complex at 401 South Pacific Street as James and Cole. Bell was identified in a photo lineup by a witness who observed him heading towards James’ and Cole’s apartment with a handgun.

The witness fled the scene and heard shots shortly after. He cooperated with police to identify Bell, who tried to escape police but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit by officers.

Police are still investigating, and more information will be reported as it is made available.

Bell’s bond is set at $2.5 million, and he may not leave Cape Girardeau County.
