He’s only a sophomore, but Redhawk Denzel Mahoney has reached a major milestone last week, when he joined the SEMO Basketball 1,000 Point Club. A native of Oviedo, Florida, Mahoney surpassed the thousand-point mark last Thursday in a victory at Morehead State. In less than two seasons, he already ranks 21st in career points scored in SEMO Basketball history.
Mahoney was recognized prior to tip-off in last night’s home game against Eastern Illinois, when he was presented a commemorative game ball in celebration of the 1,000 point milestone.
And on Monday, Mahoney was also named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week for his two outstanding performances in OVC play last week. It was the first OVC Player of the Week honor of Mahoney's career, and SEMO's first since Tyler Stone won the award on Mar. 3, 2014.
Besides the 15-point performance at Morehead State, Mahoney dropped in 27 points at UT Martin on Saturday, and made a buzz-beater 3-pointer to send the game to overtime and ultimately beating the Skyhawks.
For the week, Mahoney averaged 21 points, four rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He ranks second in the OVC in scoring with 20 points per game.|
