Electric Car Convention Returns To Cape Girardeau

Cape Girardeau will be abuzz with electric cars again this year for the third annual Electric Car Conversion Convention. This year’s convention will be Aug. 6 through Aug. 11 at the A.C. Brase Arena Building.

The convention is an outgrowth of the EVTVweb series by Jack Rickard and Brian Noto. The web show is filmed in Cape Girardeau and teaches people the step-by-step process of how to convert their standard engine into an all electric machine.

Brian Noto said the convention will be an international affair.

“We’re bringing in people from all over the world. We’ve got people coming in from Portugal, Holland, Australia, New Zealand- I believe Mexico, Canada- plus a lot of the United States,” Noto said. “Twenty to thirty states are represented.”

According to Noto, some of this year’s presenters will include EVTV viewers who have completed their own successful electric car conversions.

“The electric vehicle business has changed over the last few years,” Noto said. “At one point it looked like there were going to be thousands of conversion shops where people actually would convert your electric car. What really has happened now is most people like to do it themselves.”

There will be a electric car races at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport on Friday, Aug. 9 and a car show at Arena Park on Aug. 10, followed by a parade down Broadway Street.
