Fall for Dance, the annual dance concert featuring students and faculty at Southeast Missouri State University, opens on Thursday, November 17th at the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast's River Campus.

In a conversation with Hilary Peterson, Coordinator of Dance at Southeast, and Ashley Stettes, a junior studying dance at Southeast, the participants reveal that this is a concert that features a variety of dance styles and original choreography.

Peterson, who is also the artistic coordinator of the show, is showcasing a piece she choreographed titled "The Spectacular Six." It's a high-energy and action-packed sequence that features a team of superheroes who are tasked with fending off an alien invasion. The piece is set up with music from Alan Silvestri's score to Captain America?, and clips from the famous Orson Wells radio-play War of the Worlds. Ladyhawke's "Paris is Burning" provides the driving beat for the majority of the performance.

Stettes' piece is titled "Standing Her Ground," featuring music by Julia Kent. Stettes describes it as "strong and athletic."

The concert will also feature a number of guest artist pieces, including an excerpt from José Limón’s "A Choreographic Offering."  Peterson describes it as a modern classic and says that Limón’s work is "beautiful, driven by the rise and fall of the movement, and is timeless."

Fall for Dance opens Thursday, November 17th at the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast's River Campus at 7:30pm. Performances will also take place on November 18th and 19th at 7:30pm, as well as on Sunday, November 20th at 2:00pm. Tickets can be purchased here
