This week’s episode of KRCU’s Going Public, we’re talking about those pesky budget cuts to higher education with Southeast Missouri State University President Dr. Carlos Vargas. Then Missouri’s Bootheel is home to some of the highest infant mortality rates in the state. Local hospitals and agencies have been working to turn those numbers around for years. Coming up we’ll hear how a new initiative is hoping to change that. And later on in the show, Missouri’s labor unions are bracing for big changes when the right-to-work law goes into effect in August. We’ll hear from union members about why ending mandatory dues means the future isn’t so bright.
