Left Of The Dial #167 - Let Me Show You Them

We’re starting off this week’s show with a new song from Lydia Loveless, whose album Real is set to be released on August 19th. The first single is called "Longer," and is accompanied by a video depicting a particularly wonderful aimlessness.

Cass McCombs' next album, titled Mangy Love, is set to be released on August 26th. The song "Run Sister Run" is inspired by the Occupy Wall Street protester Cecily McMillan who was convicted of felony second-degree assault. It was for an incident involving a police officer in which McMillan claims she reflexively threw an elbow in response to being groped.

The Oxford, England band TTNG (Formally known as This Town Needs Guns) recorded their latest album, Disappointment Island, at the Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. This location makes sense as their emo-tinged math rock shares much in common with lots of bands from the American Midwest.

DJ Shadow, a producer known for breakout work in instrumental hip hop, has a new album out called The Mountain Will Fall. It features a number of collaborations, including one with German experimental composer Nils Frahm, and hip hop powerhouse duo Run The Jewels. The later showed up with DJ shadow to perform their track on The Tonight Show, and their performance was pure fire.

Left Of The Dial airs Friday nights from 9-11, and Saturdays from noon-2 on KRCU at 90.9FM, 88.9FM, and online at krcu.org.
