Left of the Dial #409 - Add Silence

This week I slip in a Cocteau Twins track, the 1986 song "Love's Easy Tears," which led me to this lovely and now digitally memorialized piece of ephemera

This review in The Guardian of Lucy Rose's Something's Changingshares an amusing anecdote: Rose was once on a major label, but those sensibilities didn’t suite her well so she quit the label and toured South America, relying on fans to provide her with food and shelter.

Nashville singer Lilly Hiatt has released her third album Trinity Lane. It's openly autobiographical, and I especially like the song "The Night David Bowie Died" as it seems to be about about lamenting a failed relationship when confronted with grief when you’re alone.

Grizzly Bear have released a new video for the song "Mourning Sound" which appears on their brand new album Painted Ruins. It's directed by Beatrice Pegardand stars Clémence Poésy.

The best ever description of the band Haim, and indeed, perhaps any band ever, comes from Hermione Hoby's profile in The Guardian, where she writes it's: “as though Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie had killed off all the dudes in Fleetwood Mac and were now cheerily making records about pretending to miss them.”

Finally, you might've heard that an eclipse is happening on Monday, August 21st and NPR Music will be airing a soundtrack for it on their 24/7 channel. They're taking listener suggestions, and mine is "Dayvan Cowboy" by Boards of Canada because just listen to it.

Left of the Dial airs Friday nights from 9-11 and Saturdays from noon-2 on KRCU.
