Experience Southeast Missouri State University's student production of Legally Blonde. The musical will open tonight at the Bedell Performance Hall.

It’s the story of a blonde California sorority girl who gets into Harvard Law School to follow her ex-boyfriend. It’s characterized by a positive, upbeat vibe and optimistic spirit. The part was made popular by Reese Witherspoon in the movie of the same name.Southeast senior Molly Dowd plays the lead character. She’s in almost every scene and has 17 costume changes.

“This show is a lot of fun because I think the overall message of the show is just constantly keeping a positive attitude, no matter how many times you get knocked down. So it’s a ton of energy required at all time,” Dowd said. Students began rehearsal the week before school started.

The production opens tonight at the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus and will run through Sunday.

“I am constantly doing something, and when I’m not on stage I’m changing costumes. So it’s been very physically challenging for me. As a whole, there’s more complicated music and set changes. Everything is more complicated than we’ve ever done,” Dowd said.
