"Little Shop of Horrors" is part of Summer at the River Campus

Southeast Missouri State University

Summer at the River Campus has taken a new life of its own surrounding our annual Summer Arts Festival. As part of that, three productions take the stage each summer, offering some hot entertainment in a cool setting. First up is the hit horror comedy rock musical, "Little Shop of Horrors," and we’re visiting today with director Mac McIntosh to hear all about the production.

"I am incredibly excited to bring 'Little Shop of Horrors' to the River Campus. It's a hilarious musical it satires a lot of things -- science fiction, B-movies and we have a fantastic cast full of first-rate actors from our Conservatory of Theatre and Dance -- both students and faculty. And a giant man-eating puppet, so we have four increasingly bigger giant man-eating plants that can take up to three people to work. It's the story of a botanist who finds a little plant, a little venus flytrap plant, who only eats human blood. And the plant gets bigger and bigger and bigger and it's gonna take over the world and it's hilarious. It's all 60s music, 60s rock-n-roll. There's three narrators -- Crystal, Chiffon and Ronette and they're based on the Crystals, Chiffons and Ronettes from the 60s. So it's a fantastic, hilarious show and I'm excited for people to come see it."

You can get your tickets now at River Campus.org. Next week, we’ll chat about the 39 Steps, and as always, this is Ellen Farrow and I hope to see you soon at the Box Office!
