Parks and Rec Day at the Osage Center

Cape Girardeau's Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate Parks and Recreation Day this Friday, July 11 at the Osage Center.

This “free day of fun” will be open to all from 11 am to 3 pm and a wide number of activities will be offered. Among those will be crafts and games such as an obstacle course. Everyone is welcome to come but the activities will be more kids oriented, up to the age of 13.

Cassie Essner, recreation coordinator for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, said various vendors will offer amusing things to do for the kids.

“I know that Humane Society, Discovery playhouse, Unilever will be handing out ice cream and popsicles and stuff. I think the Medicine Shoppe is going to be there doing some new activities, the Police department, the Fire department,” Essner said. “There’s a whole bunch of them.”

A first birthday party is scheduled for Playmo, the Parks and Recreation Department mascot.

The Parks and Recreation booth will provide one free kids admission ticket with one adult purchase to Cape Splash.

“If you come to Parks and Rec Day and you visit the Parks and Rec booth and sign up then we can give you a voucher to Cape Splash for that day from 3 to 7. For each paying adult you can have a free child admission but you have to have the voucher,” Essner said.
