Police Search For Suspected Bank Robber

Police are still looking for the man who is suspected of robbing the Bank of Missouri on North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.

The robber arrived quietly around 10 a.m. Monday morning. He handed the teller a note demanding cash. He had no visible weapons.

The staff of the bank followed policy and acquiesced to his demands, calling the police and locking the doors immediately after he left. Bank of Missouri President John Thompson said what could’ve been a very tense situation went smoothly and without incident.

“Our team responded very well, and followed all protocol and all processes. I think our training paid off for us in that regard,” Thompson said.

Thompson said he’s pleased with the way things went, but couldn’t divulge how much money the robber stole. The bank president was surprised that the thief bothered to rob a bank for such a small amount.

The alleged robber is still at large. Police describe him as a white male wearing a baseball cap and a hoodie. The suspect fled towards the east, and K-9 patrols were dispatched.
