A Preview of 2017-2018 Season for the Department of Music

Southeast Missouri State University

I’ve said it before...where can you find internationally recognized artists in Cape Girardeau? It’s all at the River Campus.

Southeast’s Department of Music has some exciting events for the upcoming season, including two pianists audiences will want to check out. William Chapman Nyaho will feature works by African and African-American composers and Sylvan Negrutiu will bring his technical power to the River Campus next spring.

"Both artists have very warm and friendly demeanors, and both connect quickly with audiences. Each has a reputation for providing interesting programming content by composers whose works are innovative yet not often heard in concert, so their programs have a wonderful mix of music." - Dr. Kevin Hampton, Chair of Dept. of Music

In addition to visiting artists, the Department of Music’s student ensembles will be in full swing bringing an eclectic mix of jazz, big band, choral, operatic and even a few holiday programs.

"In addition to the great performances by our students, they will benefit from our visiting artists throughout the year who take the time to offer master classes while on campus, giving our students a great opportunity to work with some of the most acclaimed artists in their areas."

Solo performances are also on the calendar for a variety of instruments by our very own professional faculty. You can grab your tickets for any of these shows on July 10 when individual tickets go on sale. As always, more information is available at rivercampus.org and I hope to see you soon at the box office!
