Redhawks Basketball Schedules Announced

Southeast Athletics

It may feel like fall just started, but we’re just 42 days away from the official start of the college basketball season. The Redhawks men’s and women’s basketball teams announced their schedules earlier this week, with some exciting contests both at home and on the road.

Both the men and the women will participate in premier invitational tournaments during non-conference play. The women will participate in the Preseason WNIT, including opening the season at nationally-ranked Louisville. The Louisville Cardinals finished last season at number 12 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

Meanwhile, the men are headed for the beach! The Redhawks will participate in the Cancun Challenge, which culminates with a pair of games at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya resort prior to Thanksgiving. Travel packages for fans are available.

Regional rival SIU will return on the schedule this year for both the men and the women. The Redhawks women will host the Salukis on November 22, while the mean will play in Carbondale on Saturday, December 9.

Fans will also want to circle their calendar for Wednesday, December 6, when the men host cross-state rival UMKC. It will be Star Wars Night, and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will get a Rowdy Wan-Kenobi mascot bobblehead, sponsored by Wood & Huston Bank.

This weekend, the Redhawks volleyball and football teams will be at home as part of Family Weekend. Tonight at 6:30 is the annual Houck “Filled” House volleyball match, with a Game of Thrones-themed t-shirt giveaway for fans. Tomorrow’s football game is Take A Kid Night --- all kids 14 & under receive free admission; kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
