Region To Be Hit By Potentially Crippling Blizzard

National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Blizzard Watch for much of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky for Christmas night and Wednesday morning.

The rain snow line will stretch from New Madrid, Missouri to Paducah, Kentucky to Evansville, Indiana.

The blizzard could potentially bring heavy snow and winds around 25 miles per hour, with gusts reaching between 35 and 45 miles per hour. The heaviest snowfall is expected to begin Christmas night around 8:00 p.m. and continue through the morning on Wednesday. More than one foot of snow is possible where the precipitation is all snow.

Travel could be impaired if the blizzard watch is upgraded to a warning. Blowing and drifting snow could make roads impassable. Travel could become very difficult or impossible. The heavy, wet snow could bring down power lines or trees.
