Southeast Missouri State University celebrated its homecoming this Saturday.

The theme for the 2012 homecoming festivities was “Going Places with Southeast.”

The day began with the All Alumni Breakfast and was immediately followed by the annual parade down Broadway.

Jeni Eason is a junior at Southeast. She says she has attended the parade, as well as the football game and tailgating events, since her freshman year.

However, the parade remains her favorite tradition.

“I come every year and I have lots of fun. It’s tradition and I love seeing all my family and friends here. And I get lots of candy,” Eason said.

Southeast’s homecoming parade is recognized as one of the largest in the region.

Immediately following the parade was the pre-game tailgating celebrations. Alumni and current students were invited to set up and enjoy the booths, food, and a live band, offered by local businesses.

Andrew Paul is a freshman here at Southeast. As a new student, he says he wasn’t sure what to expect for his first homecoming football game.

“The whole scenery of  college is completely different than high school,” Paul said. “But getting there and seeing the large crowd compared to a high school crowd, and just being around the more intense game and the band performing on the sidelines, it just really blew my mind my first time.”

Paul says he definitely looks forward to attending future homecomings at Southeast.

The Southeast Redhawks took on the UT Martin Skyhawks in the afternoon football game. The Redhawks fell to UT Martin 27-17.
