Here’s your chance for fine Italian music without the long plane ride!
Italian Maestro Fabio Pirola will lead Southeast faculty and students performing music from Italian composers as part of the “Sundays at Three” professional music series. Artistic director Brandon Christensen says it’s a perfect example of how these events benefit students.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our string students to work with a superstar young conductor for an intensive week of rehearsals which will be run just like a professional chamber orchestra. Fabio just finished a run of 20 concerts in St. Petersburg, Russia, and will arrive ready to bring out the best in our students.”
You can see the performance on Sunday, May 7, at the aforementioned 3 p.m.
If you’re looking for something a little earlier in the weekend, don’t forget its “First Friday with the Arts.” Both the Crisp Museum and the art gallery are open until 8 p.m. with opening exhibition receptions in both locations.
Also starting Friday, the Conservatory of Theatre and Dance senior showcase, with students performing songs and scenes with a purpose according to Director Michael McIntosh.
“The goal of senior showcase is really two-fold. First, it allows us to raise funds for select seniors to take the show to New York City and Los Angeles, where they’ll perform before agents and casting directors. And, secondly, it gives them the opportunity to perfect those performances in front of audiences.”
And you can see that perfection this weekend May 5 and 6.
