Guard Tesia Thompson has been named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
In two games, Thompson averaged 16.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game over the week. She poured in 10 points and three rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench in her first career OVC contest against Belmont.
In the following game against Tennessee State, Thompson scored a career high 23 points to go along with nine rebounds. Thompson scored 14 of her 23 points in the final period including a layup to take the lead with under a minute remaining. She also knocked down some clutch free throws to help seal the win for the Redhawks.
Head coach Rekha Patterson said she is proud of how Tesia has adjusted to league play and is looking forward to watching her continue to grow throughout the season. The Memphis native and former ESPN Top 100 recruit is averaging 10.7 points and 5.4 rebounds for Southeast on the season.
In addition to Thompson’s award this week, the women’s basketball team recently celebrated a successful Fall semester in the classroom. The team logged a 3.24 GPA for the semester, including 11 student-athletes achieving a 3.0 mark or higher.
The Redhawks are on the road this week. Both the women and men play at Austin Peay on Saturday. The women tip-off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m. Fans can watch both games live – just as they can any OVC basketball game – streamed for free at OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
Both teams return home next week, for a pair of doubleheaders that will feature the Fast Break Lounge for fans, on Thursday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 13.
