Two-Minute Drill: 60 Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees

Southeast Athletics

Sixty Redhawk student-athletes will receive their degrees on Saturday, May 13, at Southeast Missouri State University’s Spring Commencement ceremony. It makes up one of the largest student-athlete groups in Southeast Athletics history, as the department of athletics continues to support its student-athletes in their quest to win in the classroom, as well as in competition.

The graduating student-athletes will be recognized at a special Student-Athlete Graduation Reception Friday evening at the University Center, where they will receive their student-athlete sashes to be worn as part of their commencement regalia.

Adrian Breen, CEO of The Bank of Missouri, will give the keynote address at Friday’s reception, reflecting on how his experience as a football student-athlete at Morehead State University and a brief stint in professional football prepared him for a successful career outside the lines.

Besides the recognition happening the weekend of commencement, a pair of Softball student-athletes were honored by the Ohio Valley Conference earlier this week. Outfielder Rachel Anderson was named the OVC Freshman of the Year, and also earned All-OVC First Team and All-Newcomer honors. She is just the second softball player in Southeast history to win the OVC Freshman of the Year award – and she is the third Redhawk student-athlete to bring home the award in any sport this year.

Fellow outfielder Mykaela Arellanes also earned OVC All-Newcomer honors.

In other notable action this weekend, the Redhawk Track & Field team will compete at the OVC Outdoor Championships in Oxford, Alabama. The men’s team looks to defend its outdoor championship from a year ago.
