Two-Minute Drill: Redhawk Men's Basketball Heading to Cancun

Jun 15, 2017

Pack your bags and don’t forget your swimsuit, because the Redhawks are headed to Mexico!

The SEMO men’s basketball team will be playing in the 2017 Cancun Challenge, an eight-team tournament that concludes with a series of games at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.

The Cancun Challenge is one of the most unique basketball events held each year. Teams stay and play at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen; the resort's convention center ballroom is converted into a basketball arena, providing fans a special close-up view of the games. Upon arrival, teams and fans are treated to a spectacular all-inclusive rock star vacation with games, practices, unlimited dining, world class entertainment, and fun all in one location.

For Redhawk student-athletes, it will be a once in a lifetime trip. None of the members of the basketball team have ever been out of the country, and for several it will be their first time flying on an airplane.

As part of the Cancun Classic tournament, Southeast will play two games domestically: at Louisiana Tech and at Evansville. Then, the Redhawks will board a flight and spend Fall Break week – prior to Thanksgiving – in Playa del Carmen. An experience that – win or lose – they’ll surely never forget.Fan travel packages are available for fans who are interested in following the Redhawks. Visit CancunChallenge.net to learn more.
