All through the month of October, Southeast Missouri Athletics will actively support Breast Cancer Awareness. Southeast teams will be seen wearing special pink uniforms during competition with its student-athletes engaging in a variety of community service opportunities to “Pink Up” Cape Girardeau.
Southeast’s volleyball team and Saint Francis Healthcare System will again join forces for the Dig for Life Campaign. Members of the team secure pledges per dig that are tallied through all October home matches at Houck Field House. The money raised is then allocated to Saint Francis Healthcare System for the purpose of educating women in the Southeast Missouri area about breast cancer awareness, providing early detection opportunities and improving prevention efforts. Since its inception in 2000, the Dig for Life Campaign has been able to provide mammograms to area women who could not otherwise afford them.
At the end of the month, Southeast’s football team will wear special jerseys for its home game against Austin Peay on October 29. These jerseys are available for purchase through an online auction until October 8. Once the auction closes, winners will personalize their winning jerseys with a name in honor or memory of a survivor or loved one, if desired. After the game, these game-worn jerseys will be presented to the winning bidders. Last year’s jersey auction raised over $22,000.
