In honor of Veterans Day, we’re sharing the stories of local service members from all of the major wars and conflicts. We continue our series “We Came Home,” with a story from Iraq War veteran Capt. Tyson Mele. Mele joined the U.S. Army in 2002 right after high school. At the time, he had a full-ride scholarship to the University of Missouri. Mele is a fifth generation service member. His father was drafted during the Vietnam War and his grandfather served during the Korean War. Mele is currently serving in the Missouri National Guard. This is his story.
