Remember when the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz sang about how wonderful life would be if he only had a brain? Most of us, ironically, don’t give a lot of thought to our brains.

It’s Brain Awareness Week.

Oh, sure, you might be aware that you have a brain, but the purpose of this global campaign is to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. According to The Society for Neuroscience, the human brain is a spongy three pound mass of tissue and the most complex living structure in the known universe.

What would we do without our smartphones? We can look up news and weather in seconds, access friends via social media, take pictures, and cover them in bacteria!

No, I’m not trying to get your backseat listeners to laugh at potty humor. I am trying to raise your awareness that it is Colorectal Cancer Month.

Colorectal cancer, or colon cancer, occurs in the colon or rectum.

Would you believe that Finland has lowered its infant mortality rate from 65 out of 1,000 babies to one of the lowest in the world--and now has some of the happiest mothers in the world---because they put their babies in boxes? Baby boxes, or boxinettes, are now being given out at some U.S. Hospitals, including some in our listening area, to help reduce Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS, as well as accidental smothering. A helpful acronym to remember for safe sleep is B-A-B-Y:
