"Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" at the River Campus

When rock and roll was born, its stars were bright. So bright, they still shine long after they’re gone.

Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story tells the story of Buddy Holly through his short yet spectacular career. If you think it’s a tale you’ve heard before, you’re missing the point. The show captures the dawn of an era and more than two-dozen of rock’s best songs that send audiences out of the theatre on an unstoppable high according to The Boston Globe.

Once the parade finishes and the turkey is gone, it’s time to fully turn our attention to holiday season, and what better way to start than with an evening of music to set the mood.

The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra, Choral Union and University Choir is sure to get you in the spirit November 28 with a performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria. This joyful hymn of praise is a veritable holiday tradition and one that Symphony Conductor Sara Edgerton and Choir Director Barb Lamont say will be a can’t-miss performance.

This week is first Friday, friends, and we know what that means: food, drinks, and new art.

Caroline Kahler has spent 37 years making art. Her work has appeared in 15 publications, and she’s been chosen as a juror in multiple states. And, you get to see that work, right here … for free.

Compelled to Make, A Retrospective of Work opens at the Crisp Museum at the River Campus on Friday, November 3, with a reception starting at 4 p.m. and an artist talk at 6 p.m. Kahler says what you’ll see is in fact art reflecting life in a wide variety of work.
