Last week, I told you about students collaborating with a professor on a sculpture. This week, we head to the stage. Two and half years ago, Southeast student Cody Cole had an idea. As we’ll hear from chair of Southeast’s Conservatory of Theatre and Dance, Kenn Stilson, the rest is making history.

If college is about learning … college at Southeast Missouri State University is learning by doing.

Southeast students in the Department of Art are working on a unique project that’s giving them knowledge about public sculptures, design and installation. The project will also be bringing a little beauty into their own environment on full display in the roundabout near the River Campus at Fountain and Morgan Oak Streets. It’s a project Professor Chris Wubbena says has long been in the works at least in theory.

Brian Alworth

You’ve seen him for decades delivering your local weather, now is your chance to see what he can do behind the camera.

This Friday, July 7, you’ll get a chance to see the artwork of Brian Alworth as he opens "Peaceful Solitude," an exhibition of his film photography at the Crisp Museum. The event is the second in the museum’s Southeast Solo Exhibition, something Museum Director Peter Nguyen says gives local artists the chance to show off their work.

I’ve said it before...where can you find internationally recognized artists in Cape Girardeau? It’s all at the River Campus.

Southeast’s Department of Music has some exciting events for the upcoming season, including two pianists audiences will want to check out. William Chapman Nyaho will feature works by African and African-American composers and Sylvan Negrutiu will bring his technical power to the River Campus next spring.
