Debate over reproductive rights heats up again in Missouri

President Donald Trump’s newest nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court simply adds to the latest round of heightened political tensions in Missouri over reproductive rights and abortion. And, as expected, it’s already become a key issue in the state’s closely watched U.S. Senate race. Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley is making the Supreme Court confirmation the centerpiece of the Republican U.S. Senate candidate’s first TV ad, which began airing Monday.

To Your Health: Ticks Are Responsible for More Than Just Lyme Disease

When people think of ticks, the next thing they usually think of is Lyme Disease. But did you know ticks are responsible for over fifteen different human diseases in the United States? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ticks spread the pathogens that cause disease through the feeding process, when small amounts of their saliva enter their host.

To avoid becoming a meal for a disease ridden tick, avoid overgrown shady areas when outdoors. The common...

CAIRO, IL (KRCU/The Cairo Citizen) - Lawyers from the state of Illinois and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) concluded three days of hearings Wednesday in Alexander County Court.

Judge Charles Cavaness did not issue a decision.

AFSCME is seeking a permanent injunction to block the state from transferring inmates from the Tamms Correctional Center, Dwight Correctional Center and other facilities in Illinois.

The song "I Got You Babe," on Bahamas' new album, Barchords, is obviously not Sonny and Cher's "I Got You Babe." This version is an original song the Canadian singer-songwriter Afie Jurvanen, who records under the stage name Bahamas, has written about holding and losing someone.

Several generations of nerds can chart the course of their lives against the career trajectory of "Weird Al" Yankovic. For me, his 1984 album In 3-D was the first record I ever owned, and his appearance at the Wausau County Fair in 1985 was the second concert I ever attended. I spent my 17th birthday being driven to the movie theater — by my mother, of course — to watch UHF, Yankovic's debut as a leading man, by myself.

In the early 1990s, Michael Franti led the influential and provocative band The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. The band was political, sometimes angry and the furthest thing from being a hit-maker. But in 2009, Franti did in fact score a hit with a song called "Say Hey." It reached the Billboard Top 20. Though his sound may have changed, his message hasn't.

For 40 years, Barret Hansen, known on the airwaves as "Dr. Demento," has broadcast everything weird in the music world. The Dr. Demento Show has become a cult radio institution, providing an outlet for what Demento describes as "mad music and crazy comedy." This past month, the show has finally gone off the air.

Left Of The Dial #563 - Make Me Hear

This week we'll hear new music from a couple of '90s-era bands, the underappreciated Belly, and Eels. I can't ever think about Eels without thinking about an episode of the PBS program Nova that I watched, titled "Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives." The show had a segment about Eels member Mark Everett's father, the physicist Hugh Everett , who Mark had found dead at the age of 18. It's particularly moving, and worth chasing down. I think I watched it on Netflix but that was years ago. Left of...

Journalist Sees 'Almost No Daylight' Between Fox News And White House Agendas

President Trump's connections to Fox News got even stronger last week with his appointment of Bill Shine , a former network co-president, to serve as the White House's deputy chief of staff for communications. Gabriel Sherman, who covers the White House for Vanity Fair , notes that Shine has been named in "numerous lawsuits" related to the sexual harassment claims filed against the former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. "To me, it's mind-boggling that someone with this amount of baggage, who is too...
