Happy fourth of July! Celebrate our nation’s birth at Fort D’s Fourth at the Fort on Tuesday, July 4 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. History buffs dressed as Union soldiers will demonstrate cannon and artillery fire, and the Front Porch Players will play period music at 10 a.m.

The City of Cape Girardeau will celebrate the holiday with fireworks at Arena Park on the evening of the 4th after the presentation of the Spirit of America Award.

The Smith Summer Classic Car Auction will be held at the Show Me Center July 7 and 8.

The Red House Interpretive Center hosts a speaker’s series on Friday, July 7 with a presentation from Steve Schell on building a dug out canoe.

Meet artist Dave Carter at the Nature Center on Saturday, July 8 at 1 p.m. and enjoy his oil paintings of local insects and flowers.

What better spot to work on your yoga practice than on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi? Every Saturday in July, the Parks and Recreation Department is offering a unique, accessible yoga class that lets out just in time for the Cape Riverfront Market! Join a couple dozen yogis at Riverfront Park at 8 a.m. on Saturdays for an hour of Hatha yoga that welcomes all levels of fitness.  Aside from the scenery, Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation class leaders Kelly and Danielle organized the classes at the riverfront to take advantage of the sunshine and the proximity to the Cape Riverfront Market. Grab your mat, head down the banks of the Mississippi for an hour of Hatha yoga and head a few blocks up to the Cape Riverfront Market, where you can stock up on the freshest fruits and vegetables around and snag a pretty bouquet for your table while enjoying breakfast and live music.
