The Space Museum in Bonne Terre will open a new branch in Branson.

Museum president and founder Earl Mullins says he was approached by a group of promoters who want to open a museum that will appeal to all age groups.

“They offered us literally a deal we couldn’t refuse,” Mullins said. “We saw it immediately as a huge opportunity to develop a revenue stream that we desperately need to finish our work in the Mineral Area.”

The new museum will occupy 8,000 square feet.

The original museum will remain open, though Mullins says visitors there may see some changes.

“We’re like many museums. We can’t put everything out at once. But now with this new space we can start dragging some things out of the closet that people haven’t seen. We will be refreshing the displays at the Bonne Terre facility as well as, of course, starting brand new at Branson,” Mullins said.

The Bonne Terre Space Museum relies on donations and entrance fees to fund its operations. It houses several significant exhibits, including space suits and space shuttle engine parts.

The new museum’s earlier possible opening date is April 1. Mullins says it will open no later than May 1.
