The St. Louis Cardinals have announced contract extensions for Manager Mike Matheny and General Manager John Mozeliak. The extensions will keep Matheny in St. Louis until 2014, and Mozeliak, until 2016.  The decision was announced at the Cardinals' spring training center in Jupiter, Florida. Mike Matheny was thrilled with the extension.

"What a great compliment to know that this organization, the ownership group, front office believes that what the staff and I have done and will continue to do is part of the future here, because this a special place to be a part of,” Matheny said.

The decision comes at a crucial time for the Cardinals. With veteran pitcher Chris Carpenter out for the upcoming season, both Matheny and Mozeliak will depend on young talent for success moving forward.
