The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri is having its first Howl-o-Ween Poker Run and Fun event this Saturday, October 18th at Lawless Harley-Davidson.
The event will feature a poker run, a costume contest, Halloween trick-or-treating and other fun activities like face painting. The Humane Society will also be collecting Purina cat and dog food during the event.
“We are going to have some vendors out there and we are going to have the costume contest both for for pets and for kids, and we’ll have some other Halloween activities,” Humane Society of Southeast Missouri director Cheryl Ellis said. “They can trick or treat at different booth and of course we’ll have candy for the kids.”
A poker run is an organized event in which people ride their motorcycles to several checkpoints and draw a playing card at each one. The goal is to have the best poker hand at the end. For this poker run, there will be prizes awarded to the best and the worst hands.
Registration for the poker run will begin at 10 a.m., with bikes leaving at 11:00 a.m. A 10 dollars donation constitutes the entry fee for the poker run. All riders participating will be entered into a drawing for tickets to the 2015 St. Louis Cardinal game of their choice.
Ellis said the motorcycle ride will take a southern route.
“It’s going to go to Schindler’s, JP’s Place and Tailgaters in Sikeston,” Ellis said. “They’ll be back around 4:00 p.m.”
The costume contest for kids and pets will last from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the entry fee for this will be a five dollar donation. All donations collected during the event will go the the Humane Society shelter, and everyone donating will receive a shopping voucher valid at Lawless Harley-Davidson.
Ellis said people will need to sign up for the costume contest before 2:00 p.m. and all dogs attending the event must follow certain rules.
“We ask that everybody be up-to-date on their shots and everybody be on leash and well behaved,” Ellis added.
