Matukewicz Receives Two-Year Contract Extension

Nov 30, 2017

Southeast Missouri Head Football Coach Tom Matukewicz received a two-year contract extension through the 2020 season, Director of Athletics Brady Barke announced on Monday, November 27, 2017.

In a release on Monday, Barke said that Matukewicz is the right person to lead the SEMO football program into the future. He went on to say that while no one is satisfied with the win-loss record, the culture within the program has greatly improved, citing increased competitiveness within the OVC. This season the Redhawks finished 5th in the OVC standings, just the second time since 2010 the program finished 5th or higher, both times coming under Coach Tuke’s watch.

Coach Tuke echoed Barke’s statement in the release that there is progress to make in the win/loss column, and he indicated that some changes and strategic investments in the program would be made to help push the program to the next level.

This past season, Southeast had four individuals named to the All Ohio Valley Conference teams. Junior running back Marquis Terry was the OVC’s leading rusher and earned First Team and All-Newcomer Honors. Senior outside linebacker Kendall Donnerson was also a first team pick. Meanwhile, inside linebacker Zach Hall and offensive tackle Drew Forbes both earned second team honors.

Meanwhile, Redhawk fans will want to circle the calendar for this upcoming Wednesday, December 6, when the men’s basketball team hosts in-state foe UMKC for “Star Wars Night.” The first 1,500 fans will receive a special edition Rowdy-Wan Kenobi bobblehead, courtesy of game sponsor Wood & Huston Bank, and there will be some special guest Star Wars characters also in attendance.
