What can you see in the Shuck Recital Hall this fall? Quirky quintets, bluegrass and even some local faces.
The "Sundays at Three" professional music series brings in artists from across the country and around the globe. As the series starts its eleventh season at the River Campus, we say goodbye to some old friends and welcome new faces. Artistic director Brandon Christensen exits the stage for a new job out west and Gabrielle Baffoni says she is excited to step in to guide the series.
"I've enjoyed the series since my arrival at Southeast in 2012, first as an audience member and then later as a performer. I'm really excited to start this fall as artistic director. I hope I can continue the tradition of bringing first-rate chamber music performers to Southeast."
The artists lined up include two Chicago-based ensembles, a Michigan trio, two Italian musicians and some of our own faculty and students. The music to your ears will be played by woodwinds, piano, violin and cello ...all ranging from romantic to baroque to bluegrass.
"Chamber music is probably my favorite type of music to play and one of my favorites to experience live. It requires intense communication and interaction. Also, it's so important that our students have the opportunity to see professional local chamber music performed live and this series allows us to bring these kinds of performances to the campus." - Gabrielle Baffoni
Baffoni says getting these professional artists to Cape Girardeau for an affordable concert series is funded by sponsors and patrons. So, make sure you take advantage of the variety of styles and the chance to see world-renowned musicians in our own back yard.
As always. more information is available at RiverCampus.org and i hope to see you soon at the box office!
