Redhawk Teams & Student-Athletes Honored for Academic Excellence

Southeast Athletics

Southeast Athletics has been recognized with several team and individual recognitions for outstanding academic performance of its student-athletes.

Southeast Missouri's women's cross country and women's soccer teams were the winners of the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Award for their respective sports, presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade point average or higher.

This was the third straight year women's cross country earned the Team Academic Award, and the second straight year for the soccer team.

26 Redhawk student-athletes earned the OVC Medal of Honor, which ranked as the second most among all OVC programs. The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athletes who achieve the highest grade point average in a Conference-sponsored sport. Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2016-17 academic year carried a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Meanwhile, Southeast Athletics also had the second most student-athletes recognized on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll with 128 student-athletes. To be listed on the Honor Roll, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average, have been eligible and on their team throughout the competitive season, and used a season of competition.

Earlier this summer, other Redhawk teams also earned national academic recognition in their sport from their respective coaches associations. The volleyball team was honored for the 10th consecutive year with the AVCA Academic Award; women’s cross country earned the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award; and tennis earned the ITA All-Academic Team recognition.

Reminder to come out and cheer on the Redhawk soccer team on Sunday as they host their regular season home opener at 6:30 p.m. at Houck Field. The first 300 fans will get a free eclipse-themed soccer t-shirt with glow-in-the-dark print, courtesy of Burrito-Ville.
