Southeast Athletics recognized its scholar-athletes on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the Show Me Center during the basketball doubleheader vs. rival Murray State. 207 student-athletes – approximately 60 percent of all student-athletes – achieved a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average through the Fall 2017 semester.
It represents another outstanding semester for Redhawk student-athletes, who combined to earn a 3.192 cumulative GPA. Thirteen of the 15 Southeast teams have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, and the two teams under the mark are less than one-tenth of a point below.
The women’s cross country team led the pack last semester, earning an outstanding 3.763 team GPA in the Fall. Meanwhile, the women’s tennis team maintained the highest cumulative team GPA among the 15 Redhawk programs.
Coach Rick Ray’s men’s basketball team showed the biggest improvement over Fall 2016 with an improvement of more than six-tenths of a point in order to achieve a team mark of 3.086 last semester.
Remarkably, 55 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 during this past semester, and 19 student-athletes currently hold a cumulative GPA that is perfect.
Southeast men’s and women’s basketball teams return home tomorrow to host Austin Peay in a doubleheader with a very special promotion. SoutheastHEALTH and the Redhawks are partnering together to Stripe Out the Show Me Center. Over 3,000 tshirts will be given away to fans in the lower level – red shirts in odd-numbered section, and black shirts in even numbered sections.
