Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Agriculture announced on Wednesday that it will partner with Lincoln University to work together on courses, research and outreach.

The universities will offer courses to each others’ students, and faculty have already identified several areas of research that are ripe for collaboration. Southeast’s Agriculture Department chair Michael Aide said faculty will benefit by being able to work with Lincoln University’s personnel on research.

“They have an extension biofuels program,” Aide said. “Southeast is developing one. That synergy will propel that for the growers of the southeast Missouri region.”

Aide says both universities will be able to leverage each other’s expertise. Southeast has a strong beef program, and Lincoln University has courses on raising sheep and goats.

“Southeast will try to provide information to the students at Lincoln about beef and beef production. They will provide information to our students about small ruminants and biofuel technologies,” Aide said.

Small ruminants include animals like goats and sheep. Aide says the university will begin offering courses in spring 2014.

Lincoln University is located in Jefferson City.
