Two-Minute Drill: Six Redhawks Earn All-OVC Baseball Honors

Southeast Athletics

A total of six Redhawks have been named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference baseball teams, the league announced on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

Outfielder Dan Holst headlined the award-winners for Southeast, picking up First Team All-OVC honors. Four others, including catcher Brian Lees, outfielder Chris Osborne, and starting pitchers Justin Murphy and Clay Chandler earned Second Team accolades. Freshman second baseman Danny Wright earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.

Head coach Andy Sawyers commented on the award winners, "I am proud of our young men as we were well-represented on the All-Conference teams. These men are all good players but more importantly they are all good people and teammates who care more about the group than they do individual success."

The award announcement comes on the heels of the SEMO Athletic Department announcement regarding spring GPAs. The baseball team recorded the highest team GPA among Redhawks men’s program during the spring semester, with a 3.299 team GPA. Baseball was one of nine teams that recorded a team GPA above 3.0 in the spring.

The Redhawk baseball team continues its season this weekend at the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship at Chocolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama, as they defend last year’s OVC Tournament Championship and vie for the league’s automatic berth to NCAA Regionals. Heading into the tournament, Southeast was coming off a three-game sweep of Eastern Kentucky at home to wrap-up the regular season and claim the fifth seed in the eight team bracket.

The Redhawks opened tournament play Wednesday against No. 4 Jacksonville State, but as of recording the game had not finished. Stay tuned to GoSoutheast.com for complete coverage of the Redhawks Baseball team at the OVC Tournament.
