The Southeast Missouri State football program is beginning to receive national recognition ahead of the upcoming 2018 campaign. 

Redhawk senior running back Marquis Terry was one of four Ohio Valley Conference players named to the Lindy's Sports Preseason All-America Teams.

Southeast Missouri men’s basketball team added guard Oscar Kao to its 2018-19 roster this week.

"Oscar is a tough, skilled guard who will be a benefit to our team immediately," said Southeast head coach Rick Ray. "He can shoot the ball and make plays for others because of his knowledge of how to manipulate ball screens. Oscar has always dreamed of coming to the United States to play college basketball and we are very happy and fortunate that he gets to continue his dream here at SEMO."

Former Southeast Missouri football standouts Dan Connolly and Ryan Roth recently opened D1 Training, a World-Class Performance Center in St. Louis. 

D1 Training, a leading fitness concept that utilizes the five tenets of athletic-based training to help people of all ages achieve their sport and fitness goals, has opened as the first D1 in Missouri. A grand opening celebration was held last weekend.

Southeast Missouri's Department of Athletics hosted the 35th Annual Kohlfeld Distributing Charlie Brune Classic under partly cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures at the Cape Girardeau Country Club last Friday. 

A total of 50 teams and 200 golfers participated in this year's event with, 14 competing in the morning flight and 36 finishing the day in the afternoon.

Senior right-handed pitcher Carlos Vega was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 21st round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft earlier this month. Vega is the first Redhawk to be drafted by the Cubs. 

Vega went 8-3 and led SEMO with a 2.45 ERA this season. He appeared in 20 games and made nine starts. The Silver City, New Mexico native began the 2018 campaign as a closer, but moved to the starting rotation in time for Ohio Valley Conference play. He pitched 73.1 innings with 85 strikeouts and held opponents to a .222 batting average.
